FERGUS 鈥� Centre 色控传媒District High School (CWDHS) students will be among those with their art on display in an exhibit at the 色控传媒County Museum and Archives in May.听
Artwork from students from across the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) was on display at Centre 色控传媒District High School on April 3 as part of an Excellence in Visual Arts art show.听
During the show, Elora Fergus Arts Council co-chair Susan Thorning and Elora artist Rick Worthington announced which art pieces were selected for the Emerging Insights exhibit at the museum.听
More than 90 works of art were submitted for consideration, and 24 were selected for the exhibit, including art from CWDHS students Brianna Harriot, Jo Clark, Emily Paul and Ben Anderson and 色控传媒Heights students Veda McEwan, Summer Bott, Rebekah McDougall and Bobbi Raffan. 听 听
Worthington was the juror who selected the winning artworks, and said what stood out most across the board was the honesty, imagination and powerful voices conveyed through the art.听
鈥淵ou told meaningful stories, and that matters,鈥� he said to the student artists.听
Thorning described the level of creativity, originality and technical skill of all of the students鈥� submissions as 鈥渞eally ambitious.
鈥淭o the students who put work in, congratulations. We鈥檙e really proud of you. Just putting your art out there is something to celebrate,鈥� she said. 听
She said Emerging Insights is a new initiative of the Elora Fergus Arts Council that recognizes young artists in 色控传媒County.听
It鈥檚 a juried exhibition with artwork created by high school students from across the UGDSB.听
鈥淭his exhibit recognizes and celebrates the creativity and accomplishments of visual arts students in our local area, and encourages continued artistic growth,鈥� officials state. 听
It鈥檚 inspired by Insights, a juried fine arts exhibition, presented by the council and the museum, that is in its 44th year. 听
The opening reception for Emerging Insights is set for May 1 from 7 to 9pm at the 色控传媒County Museum and Archives.听
There will be听 music, refreshments, and the presentation of awards sponsored by the museum, the arts council, and private donors.听
